Real Estate Industry Leadership Council

Dan Emmett
(Douglas, Emmett & Co.)
Dan Emmett is CEO of Douglas, Emmett and Company, a real estate investment and management firm concentrating on high-rise and mid-rise office buildings and luxury apartment communities. Mr. Emmett has helped show that energy efficiency makes strong economic sense. Douglas, Emmett and Company has undertaken a corporate energy program, including benchmarking facility energy performance, training building managers and engineers in energy-efficient operations and procedures, and re-commissioning and retrofitting buildings. In just four years, the company reduced energy use by 16 percent in the 32 properties that have undergone improvements (such as lighting, heating and cooling equipment upgrades), saving 66 million kWhs and $7.5 million. Mr. Emmett was a leader on the Green Building Initiative Team.

Craig Sheehy (Envison Realty)
Mr. Sheehy started Envision Realty Services in 2007 as he felt there was a growing and unmet demand for properties that are built or retrofitted to be resource-efficient and that are equipped with advanced energy saving technologies and have policies and programs in place to achieve LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

 

Craig was responsible for the implementation of Thomas Properties Group $500,000,000 national Green Building Fund and has been traveling North America promoting his environmental project, Greening Your Building Towards Your Bottom Line. Craig’s first green building (Joe Serna, Jr. – Cal/EPA Headquarters building), a 950,000 square foot high rise in Sacramento was recognized as one of the most energy efficient high-rises in the U.S. through Energy Star and was awarded the Platinum Certification through the United States Green Building Councils LEED-EB program.  The building was also the 2004 winner of BOMA Internationals TOBY Earth Award.

 

Craig has become a sought-after speaker in the Real Estate Industry, educating the industry on Green Development, strategies & low cost/no cost operational efficiencies that can be incorporated into commercial buildings.  Real-life, state-of-the-art green building practices not only improves our impact on the environment, but also improves our net operating income. 

 

Envision Realty Services has become one of the largest LEED consulting companies in the nation by way of buildings going through the certification process with 25 buildings and 10.5 million square feet of office space under contract in 2008.

 

Mr. Sheehy was Appointed Vice Chair of Governor Schwarzenegger’s Real Estate Industry Leadership Council, where his role is incentivizing the private real estate sector into incorporating energy efficiency and green buildings into their projects. Craig is Chair of the Steering Committee for the California Sustainability Alliance and an Advisory Board Member of Eco-Zone.  He is the Immediate Past President of BOMA Internationals Pacific Southwest Region and Immediate Past Chair of the BOMA BEEP program.

 

Mr. Sheehy graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration.

Shelley Billik (Warner Brothers)
Shelley Billik is Warner Brothers' Vice President for Environmental Initiatives. A movie and television production facility sited on 140 acres with several satellite locations, Warner Bros. functions much like a small city with a diverse building portfolio including stages, manufacturing facilities, warehouses and office buildings. Several years ago, the Warner Bros. Environmental Initiatives department embarked on an energy efficiency program that now reduces energy consumption by 6.7 million kWh annually. More recently, Warner Bros. raised the bar for other studios and businesses by completing a green remodel of a 56,000 square foot office building that has been certified LEED Commercial Interior Silver. Warner Bros. is a member of the US Green Building Council and Ms. Billik is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Bob Accomando (Arden Realty)
Bob Accomando is First Vice President of Arden Realty. Arden Realty, Inc. is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust traded on the New York Stock Exchange (ARI). Based in West Los Angeles, Arden is a fully integrated real estate company and the largest landlord of office buildings in Southern California. Arden has a portfolio of 120 properties consisting of 193 buildings and approximately 18.2 million net rentable square feet. In recent years, Arden has pursued energy savings in its properties that has resulted in savings of 9 Megawatts of demand. Arden was honored as a U.S. EPA Energy Star "Partner of the Year" in 2002. Bob was part of the Green Building Initiative team.

Brenna Walraven (USAA Realty Estate Co.)
As Executive Director of property management for USAA's subsidiary, USAA Real Estate Co ., Walraven oversees a portfolio of 35 investment properties across the country. A long-time believer in the importance of energy efficiency, Walraven approached her supervisors about her desire to pursue Energy Star labeling across the investment portfolio in 2000. Since then, she has taken USAA to Energy Star's "Partner of the Year" three years in a row.

Gary Holtzer (Hines)
Gary Holtzer is Fund Manager and Vice President of Hines-a privately-owned real estate firm involved in developing, acquiring, leasing and managing real estate, as well as providing extensive international investment management and advisory services. The Hines portfolio of projects completed, underway, acquired and managed for third parties includes more than 700 properties representing more than 244 million square feet of office, mixed-use, industrial, hotel, medical, sports facilities and residential properties, as well as large, master-planned communities and land developments. With offices in 69 U.S. cities and 12 foreign countries, and controlled assets valued at approximately $14 billion, Hines is one of the largest real estate organizations in the world. Part of Green Building Initiative Team.

Stan Roualdes (Shorenstein)
Stan Roualdes joined Shorenstein Company in 1988, and is an Executive Vice President with responsibility for overseeing the management and operation of the company's national real estate portfolio. His responsibilities include establishing company-wide management and operating standards and monitoring tenant satisfaction and asset performance. Part of Green Building Initiative Team.
