State of California LEED Certified Buildings

Health Services Buildings, Sacramento
Health Services Buildings, Sacramento

The Green Building Order challenges state government to demonstrate leadership by becoming a model of energy and resource efficiency at state-owned buildings.

Meeting that challenge includes the attainment of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications from the United States Green Building Council.

The achievement of LEED certification will help ensure the follow through of energy and resource efficient design and construction, and the implementation and persistence of energy and resource conservation measures. LEED certification levels include Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

The Green Building Order directs that future construction and renovation
projects larger than 10,000 square feet meet LEED-New Construction Silver criteria in order to assure their energy and environmental performance. The same criteria are to be met for buildings smaller than 10,000 square feet, but certification is not required.

The state of California is also working toward achieving LEED-Existing Building certifications in buildings larger than 50,000 square feet to ensure that building occupants are incorporating energy efficiency and resource conservation measures in their building operations and maintenance practices.
