Location: Ironwood State Prison, Blythe, CA
Project Description: 6,200 solar photovoltaic panels with the capacity to generate 1.1 megawatts of peak power and 2.2 million kilowatt hours of energy per year, installed by SunEdison, with the cooperation and approval of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The solar photovoltaic system encompasses approximately 12 acres on the grounds of the state prison located near the town of Blythe in Riverside County.
The electricity generated from this project will be delivered directly to the state prison under a power purchase agreement with SunEdison, who will own and maintain the system. Construction was completed and the system went online July 2006.
