See Photos The California Department of General Services is developing several projects to install distributed generation-the generation of electricity at the site where it is to be consumed-at state-owned facilities. Integrating renewable, clean energy producing technology into these facilities will further reduce the amount of energy consumed from the grid, contributing to meeting energy reduction goals. Location: Patton State Hospital, Patton, CA Project Description: 1,644 solar photovoltaic panels installed as a parking lot canopy with the capacity to generate 280 kilowatts of peak power and 346,920 kilowatt hours of energy per year are being installed by SunEdison, with the cooperation and approval of the California Department of Mental Health.
The solar photovoltaic system encompasses approximately one acre on the grounds of the state hospital located in the town of Patton in San Bernardino County.
The electricity generated from this project will be delivered directly to the state hospital under a power purchase agreement with SunEdison, who will own and maintain the system. Construction was completed and the system went online July 2006. Contact: Patrick McCoy, Department of General Services, 916-375-5988
