California Lottery Commission (CLC)

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE'RE DOING

The Lottery was created by a ballot measure, Proposition 37, which was approved by 58 percent of voters on Nov. 6, 1984. The Lottery Act gave the Lottery a clear mission: to provide supplemental funding for all public schools and colleges.

The Lottery continues to work on reducing energy usage, water consumption and greenhouse gases.  The Lottery Headquarters building recently received LEED Silver EBOM certification, and is currently in the final review stage for LEED New Construction certification at our Santa Fe Springs District Office. The Lottery is currently working on a Facilities Master Plan that focuses on replacing all leased facilities with Lottery-owned facilities. Currently, the Lottery owns four of its 12 facilities.  The Lottery’s new facilities are being designed as Zero Net Energy (ZNE), and LEED certification will be required on all construction projects.  The Lottery is committed to preserving the State’s natural resources as demonstrated by our commitment to ZNE buildings. The Lottery will continue to make significant efforts to reduce the impact of our organization on the environment.

The increases in the Lottery’s energy usage from 2003 to the present does not take into account the 71% increase in total square footage the Lottery currently owns, and the increase in staff necessary to support robust Lottery product sales.
