California Conservation Corps (CCC)

Since 1976, the California Conservation Corps (CCC) has established a successful program for young women and men to work hard protecting and restoring California’s environment and responding to disasters, becoming stronger workers, citizens and individuals through their service to California.

Since its inception the CCC has always been a leader in the energy conservation movement under then Governor, Jerry Brown. Today, the CCC continues to provide conservation work assisting schools, state and local governmental agencies in saving energy, water and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, all while offering technical instruction to our youth that can lead to apprenticeships, advanced training and future employment opportunities.

WHY OUR GRAPHS REFLECT INCREASED USAGE?

The graphs represent our growth in new, state-owned residential and charter high school centers. When Executive Order B-18-12 was established, the CCC only owned one facility – Placer Center in Auburn. As part of the CCC’s reinstatement of the residential program, the CCC has since acquired and built Tahoe and Camarillo residential centers – an over 200% increase in the Corpsmembers that live, work and are educated in our new Centers. The CCC attained LEED “Silver” in both our new facilities. In the earliest days, the CCC had over two dozen residential facilities statewide from which we operated our conservation programs, but due to budget constraints and cuts back in early 2000s, the CCC modified and reduced its residential program.

Our program will continue to grow in order to meet the demand for our services, and future state-owned CCC residential centers will be designed at a minimum LEED “Silver” standard. Some residential center plans even include achieving “zero net energy”. We are committed to owning and operating our centers sustainably as well as working with and for other departments in meeting the statewide goals.
